Setting Up a Custom Domain

Use your own domain (like portal.yourcompany.com) for a fully branded client experience.

What is a Custom Domain?

By default, your client portal is accessible at a subdomain like yourcompany.zyonentertainment.com.au. With a custom domain, clients can visit your portal at your own domain, such as:

  • portal.yourcompany.com
  • clients.yourproductions.com.au
  • studio.yourfilms.com

Before You Start

You'll need:

  • A domain you own (purchased from GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.)
  • Access to your domain's DNS settings (the ability to add DNS records)
  • Owner or Admin role in your MyStudio portal

TIP

If you're not sure how to access your DNS settings, contact whoever manages your domain or look for "DNS Management" in your domain provider's dashboard.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Request Your Domain in MyStudio

  1. Go to Settings (gear icon in sidebar)
  2. Click the Portal Settings tab
  3. Click Add Custom Domain
  4. Enter your desired domain (e.g., portal.yourcompany.com)
  5. Click Request Domain

You'll see a verification screen with DNS instructions.

Step 2: Add a DNS Record

You need to add a CNAME record that points your domain to MyStudio's servers.

Understanding DNS Fields

When adding a DNS record, you'll see these fields:

FieldDescriptionWhat to Enter
TypeThe kind of recordSelect CNAME
Name / HostThe subdomain partJust the first part (e.g., portal)
Target / Value / Points toWhere to redirectzyonentertainment.com.au
TTLHow long to cacheAutomatic or 3600

Common Mistake

Don't enter the full domain in the Name field! If your custom domain is portal.yourcompany.com, only enter portal — not the whole thing.

Provider-Specific Instructions

Cloudflare

  1. Log in to Cloudflare Dashboard
  2. Select your domain
  3. Go to DNS in the left sidebar
  4. Click Add record
  5. Fill in:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: portal (or your chosen subdomain)
    • Target: zyonentertainment.com.au
    • Proxy status: Keep as Proxied (orange cloud) or DNS only (grey cloud)
  6. Click Save

Cloudflare SSL Settings

If using Cloudflare's proxy (orange cloud), go to SSL/TLS and set the mode to Full. This ensures SSL works correctly between Cloudflare and MyStudio.

GoDaddy

  1. Log in to GoDaddy
  2. Go to My ProductsDomains
  3. Find your domain and click DNS
  4. In the Records section, click Add
  5. Fill in:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Host: portal (or your chosen subdomain)
    • Points to: zyonentertainment.com.au
    • TTL: 1 Hour
  6. Click Save

Namecheap

  1. Log in to Namecheap
  2. Go to Domain List
  3. Click Manage next to your domain
  4. Click the Advanced DNS tab
  5. In the Host Records section, click Add New Record
  6. Fill in:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Host: portal (or your chosen subdomain)
    • Value: zyonentertainment.com.au
    • TTL: Automatic
  7. Click the checkmark to save

Step 3: Wait for DNS Propagation

DNS changes take time to spread across the internet:

  • Minimum: 15 minutes
  • Typical: 1-4 hours
  • Maximum: Up to 48 hours

You can check if your DNS has propagated using dnschecker.org:

  1. Enter your full domain (e.g., portal.yourcompany.com)
  2. Select CNAME as the record type
  3. Check that results show zyonentertainment.com.au

Step 4: Verify in MyStudio

Once your DNS is set up:

  1. Return to SettingsPortal Settings
  2. Click Verify DNS
  3. If successful, you'll see a green confirmation
  4. Your custom domain is now active!

Troubleshooting

"DNS verification failed"

  • Wait longer: DNS can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally
  • Check the record type: Make sure you created a CNAME, not an A record
  • Check the name: If your domain is portal.yourcompany.com, the Name should be just portal
  • Check the target: It should be exactly zyonentertainment.com.au (no https:// or trailing slash)

"Site not loading" after verification

  • Clear your browser cache or try incognito mode
  • Check SSL settings in Cloudflare (set to "Full" if using proxy)
  • Wait 5-10 minutes for SSL certificates to be issued

Using an A record instead of CNAME

If your DNS provider doesn't support CNAME for your setup, use an A record instead:

FieldWhat to Enter
TypeA
Nameportal
Value45.77.235.237
TTLAutomatic or 3600
